Michigan Wedding Video & Event Videography by Bruce Mandel

Christmas Gifts!

If you know me, you know that besides owning and operating one of the best video production companies in Michigan, is that I'm also a Big Movie Buff!  And of course while you are watching all of those great movies the best snack food for movie watching is of course popcorn!  Well about 15 years ago my sister in-law Daryl Marrone sprinkeled on some grated parmesian cheese onto my popcorn she gave me at her house.  And from that point on I have been experimenting with all types of cheeses and methods of grinding the cheese for my popcorn.  I'm at a point now where it's probably ridiculous but it's now turned into a crazy hobby of mine.  I try cheeses from around the world and mix various types to experiment with flavor.  My wife Deb says that I've gone overboard and she says that our living room smells like dirty socks while I'm eating my popcorn because of all the old world flavors of high end cheeses that I use.  Oh Well!  Anyways Deb got me this awesome Cheese Grader to experiment with for a Christmas gift this year.  It's probably the most heavy duty cheese grader I've ever seen.   Thanks Deb!

Christmas 2008

Yes the economy is down but our spirits are still high here at Mandel Video Productions.  The things that really matter are family and friends and I've got the best family and friends anyone could hope to have.  What made it extra special for me was to have my daughter Chelsea come home from college for Christmas break.  She attends GrandValley State University and is in her sophmore year.  We spent one whole day together talking about everything and anything and the day just confirmed to me that Chelsea is on her way to becoming a well rounded terrific person.  I'm so happy for the choices she is making in her decisions about what she wants to do and who she wants to become.  These pictures are when we stopped in at "The Chop House" in Downtown Rochester and had a bite to eat.   If you haven't been to downtown Rochester during the Holiday season, I highly reccommend it.  Four blocks of building fronts are decorated in led Christmas lights.  It's an awesome sight to behold.  Also wanted to mention that Don Pham and I also had our annual Christmas dinner at the Chop House.   I think it's our 16th in a row!  Just another Holiday season in the life of a Michigan Wedding Videographer!

Internet Video Encoding

I am happy to announce that "The Varsity Shop" Baseball Training Center in Bloomfield MI chose us to encode all of their new videos that they have up on their new website.  Our ProCoder 3 encoding software allows us maximize internet clarity while keeping the file sizes to a minimum so that they will play smoothly on various internet connection speeds that the public uses.  Just another day in the life of a Michigan Wedding Videographer.

Bad News and Good News

Unfortunately last week my daughter Chelsea had her MacBook Laptop stolen from her apartment while she was at work.  No one broke in, apparently her roomates had a guest over and while they weren't looking he (thief) slipped Chelsea's laptop into his backpack and bid farewell.  As it turns out this guy they all met a couple of months ago was even using an alias for his name.  A police report was filed.  The good news is that we had taken out a special insurance rider to cover theft and today Chelsea got the new Apple MacBook.  The new MacBook has a bigger hard drive and lots of new technology including an all new one piece aluminum case, so besides having to laod new software and getting iTunes songs back on her laptop, once again all is well in the Mandel Family.  Just another day in the life of a Michigan Wedding Videographer.

Daughter Visits Mom and Dad!

This was a great weekend for me and my family.  My beautiful daughter Chelsea Claire came home from Grand Valley University to visit her parents for the weekend.  We had not seen her for 2- 1/2 months and had missed her dearly.  She doesn't have time to watch movies at school so we rented and watched plenty while she was home.  While in Town (Lake Orion) she got her hair cut (doesn't she have the most wonderful hair color?) visited her grandparents and we also stopped in at her Aunt Daryl's and Uncle Russell's house to see them and her cousins Rachel and Ryan.  We wrapped up the weekend by taking Chelsea shopping to get some extra things she need back at GVU.  Before we left we took Chelsea out for lunch and we stopped in at the new Culver's on M-24 by the Palace.  She tried their famous "Butterburger" and declared it a winner!  BTW, if you haven't been there, youv'e got to try it.  The Butterburger is great and don't forget to leave room for one of their famous dairy deserts.  Just another weekend in the life of a Michigan Wedding Videographer!

Outstanding Volunteerism Award

I was recently awarded the "2008 Frenkel Award" for Outstanding Volunteerism from the biggest Mac Group community in the country, Mac Group Detroit. Founded and run by Terry White. The award was given to me because for the past year I videotaped all of the Mac Group Detroit meetings held each month. This allows members who couldn't make the meeting stay in touch and also allows guests that visit the Mac Group Detroit website see what they are all about.

If you are into computers, PC or Mac, this club is worth your while. Every month Terry brings in special guest speakers from all over the country to demonstrate their products or software. From Scott Kelby (President of NAPP) to even Steve Wozniak (Apple Computer Inventor), the people and learning sessions are incredible and are must attend meetings! Note: See photo below of me, Woz and Terry.

I was invited to go out to dinner with Woz and Terry after the meeting and had a chance to talk to him, a person whom I consider to be in the league with Edison, Firestone, Ford, etc. This guy changed the world as we know it! I can say that he was gratious, down to earth and a great "Jokester & magician". He carried a black cloth bag with him that contained many different magic tricks and he put on a great show at the dinner table for all. He even gave me one of his coveted steel, lazer ingraved business cards (which people have sold on Ebay for upwards of $500!) which includes his cell number! I won't forget that day soon. Welcome to my new Blog.

I've had lot's of requests from bride's and friends to start a blog on my website. So today is the inagural kick-off! I will be sharing my experiences with you from my Michigan based video production company and am looking forward to also hearing your comments and stories. I want to use this blog to open myself and my company up to the public and to feel more connected to everyone. Lets go on this new venture together!
